Curating & celebrating

the food & chefs we love

In our lovely location overlooking the River Cam, we offer a carefully curated selection of artisan foods made by people we admire. From fresh pastries to take-away lunches to punting picnic baskets, we curate food and beverages that are made with love to a high standard — and we want to share them with you!

We are committed to fostering a progressive food culture in Cambridge. The brands that we stock and the Chefs that we work with are independent producers with a focus on ethical sourcing and quality production processes.

Frederic has been working in food and wine distribution for over 10 years. He began in Paris with a deep concern about the future of food and the troubling development of supermarkets crushing independent shops. He left his work in the world of commercial photography and got to work studying sustainability-minded food distribution operations hands-on.

He and his family eventually moved to London, where he continued to explore local food projects and biodynamic farming methods. He worked for a series of pioneering food/grocery groups in London as he developed his love of artisan wines and independent producers. He eventually earned the necessary qualifications to import his own range of low-intervention wines, a project that would draw him to Cambridge and our beautiful location on the River Cam.

These days, Frederic is especially interested in partnering with chefs and brands to provide ready-to-enjoy meals and snacks at the shop. We are always developing new ideas and we're excited to continue evolving what we offer to this community! But one thing will always stay the same: it all starts with the ingredients, which are uncompromising in both their quality and the sustainability of their production.

What's "Espièglerie"?

Playful, impish, frolicsome and mischievous — espièglerie is a French word that assembles all of these endearing qualities into a single spirit. This spirit guides everything we do at Frederic's. It's the foundation of our approach to feeding you and helping you feed yourself. We like to explore food, have fun with it, and use it inject positive energy into our community.

That's why you'll see these eyes popping up from time to time. They symbolize the way food can delight us, surprise us, and encourage us to take a closer look at what we eat.
